Hospice
of the Panhandle was founded in 1980 by a group of concerned volunteers.
Since then volunteers have been integral to the delivery of compassionate
care as well as the growth of the organization.
Hospice
volunteers are extremely important to hospice-so much so that Medicare
stipulates 5% of all patient care be provided by volunteers. Individuals
who are interested in either patient and family support or bereavement
care are required to complete a 25 hour training course. Training
is not required, but is recommended, for organizational support
volunteers.
