Volunteer Training

Hospice 101 is a 1-½ hour introductory class for Hospice Helpers, Nursing Facility Entertainers, Needlers and Crafters. Also open to anyone who is interested in learning about hospice

Direct Service Training is a 20 hour program for patient care and support and bereavement volunteers and is also open to anyone who is interested in learning about hospice.

Hospice patient care volunteer training is held several times a year in various locations.*

The training:
  • Explains the history and philosophy of Hospice
  • Offers specific classes in care of the dying and related topics
  • Is offered as a community service and at no charge
  • Offers flexible training possibilities
  • Does not require one to become a volunteer
  • Includes the following sessions:
    • Death and Dying
    • Family Dynamics
    • Patient Needs
    • Communication Skills
    • Cancer & Other Terminal Disease
    • Infection Control
    • Physical Care of the Dying Person
    • Volunteerism
    • Spirituality
    • Advance Directives
    • Stress Management
    • Ethics for Volunteers
    • Final Arrangements
    • Bereavement Care

*Hospice Volunteer Training is open to any interested person. Completion of the training does not obligate anyone to become a volunteer. There is no cost to participate; however, prior registration is required. Click here for upcoming volunteer training dates.
